From Chrono Trigger, Lucca Cosplay

I wanted to start this blog to inform people about how I make my cosplays. Lucca, from Chrono Trigger, was my first cosplay ever. She is a fire based, tinkerer, smarty pants. I'm such a fan of the series, and have always loved Lucca as a character. I feel like for a cosplay, you have to connect with that character. This is what motivates me to make the costume, but that is my personal opinion of course. I also wanted to start off with an easier cosplay, just in case I butchered it hahaha. I began by looking at other cosplayers who have cosplayed as Lucca. I also looked for “how-to” blogs. My favorite Lucca costume by far was Avianna (you should def check her out! :D ). I took inspiration from her Lucca cosplay. I loved the fact that her wig looked so natural, not a fake-looking purple. I used the original artwork from Chrono Trigger for reference photos, except for the helmet (even the chibi Lucca for a side view of the helmet). I want to keep this blog as organized as possible. I feel like this is where some cosplay blogs fall short. I will break each piece of my cosplay into sections. Enjoy! :D

Helmet:
Boy was this hell to make. There really aren't any tutorials on how to make this, so I was on my own. I actually took the new artwork for the helmet because I liked the color scheme. I started off by measuring my head. Then, I went in search for a pattern for the top of the helmet. You could definitely do this yourself, but I wanted to play it safe since I didn’t really know how to sew, and this was my first sewing machine (Singer Sew-Mate 5400). I found a pizza like hat pattern (from Burda, found at JoAnn’s) and sewed it together. The only tweak I did was flip it inside out. I also found a grey beanie from HotTopic to go underneath the pizza hat. Then it was onto the outer helmet. Basically, it was a combination craft foam and Wonderflex.  I measured a plate for the circle base, then a 6in Styrofoam ball for the dome (cut in half). I covered the dome in polymer clay, to give it that dented metal look. I also used button covers. I cast the gem myself out of resin. The antenna is just a wire coat hanger. The mouth piece I took from an old headset, along with craft foam and Wonderflex. After it was pretty much finished, my boyfriend Pat gave it that worned-down look.

Outfit:
All fabric for this costume is bought from JoAnns. The tunic is basically a modified kimono pattern. I didn’t have a sewing machine at this point, so my friend Oo La La made it for me :D! The scarf is a silky material that I made from scratch. The messenger bag, suspenders and pouch(vinyl),  and socks were all made from scratch as well. The belt I found at Plato’s closet. The boots , glasses, and green undershirt were found on ebay. I purchased the toy gun from Toys R Us, and was so wonderfully painted and worn down by Pat. The tights I bought from Wal-Mart, then I just rehimmed them higher.

Wig:
Pippin in Lavender from Arda Wigs. I really wish I would have styled it, but it was my first convention, and I was scared of cutting to much off.
